About Me

I have always had a love for science so I am very fortunate to get to come to school everyday and share my passion with our scholars!

This is my 7th year teaching and my 4th year teaching science at Douglass.  I spent my first 3 years teaching in Oklahoma.  Oklahoma State University is where I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, Go Cowboys!  I also have a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Kansas, Go Jayhawks!

For the last two school years I have implemented a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program in the science lab called Engineering is Elementary.  Every grade level, K-5, comes to the science lab to learn engineering skills.  This is a hands-on program that enhances their ability to problem solve and work in collaborative groups.  They learn that a technology is any thing or system made by a person to solve a problem, not just electronics.  Also, they learn the Engineering Design Process, which is a set of steps engineers use to create their technologies.  All of this will help them to prepare for real life careers!

In the spring I also have an 8 week long club on Wednesdays after school called Eco-Kids!  This will be the 4th year and every year is a success!  We partner with Blue River Watershed Association to educate the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders about how to keep our local water supply clean and why it’s so important for our health.  Some things our scholars have done in the past is plant native plants, build bird houses, clean up trash around Big 11 lake, taken a field trip to the waste water treatment plant, and so much more!!
